This year (2017) marks the 12th Annual Meeting of the Genetic Epidemiology of Parkinson’s Disease Consortium (GEoPD). GEoPD is a global consortium of researchers dedicated to promoting education, scientific research and translational development in Parkinson’s disease. The consortium has been operating since 2004, and has an active membership from more than 60 sites on six continents. The GEoPD is organized into five cores of Bioinformatics/Genomics; Biology; Communications; Epidemiology and Statistics; and Clinical. The GEoPD Meeting is a closed event for GEoPD members only.

For the first time ever in the history of the GEoPD, Parkinson’s Queensland is adding a full day Health Professionals Symposium which will enable health professionals from around the country to engage with GEoPD scientists and researchers. As part of the Symposium, the James Parkinson Bicentenary Oration will be presented at the Symposium Dinner, which will be a highlight of the Expanding Possibilities: Science Conquering Parkinson’s Conference. The Symposium & Symposium Dinner is open to GP’s, specialists, nurses, allied health professionals, student health professionals, student researchers and pharmaceutical suppliers; alongside the scientists involved in the GEoPD. Parkinson’s Queensland members and people with Parkinson’s are also welcome to attend at a discounted rate.

Parkinson’s Queensland Forum
In addition to the Health Professionals Symposium, an extra half-day program specifically for Parkinson’s Queensland’s Members and Support Groups will be held on the final day of the event. People with Parkinson’s, our members, and support group members are invited to attend. This will include guest speakers including leading scientists and health professionals. Included in the day’s activities will be a luncheon with the President of Parkinson’s Queensland, Prof. George Mellick. Delegates attending this free event are also invited to attend the Symposium Dinner at their cost.
